Health and Safety

Health and Safety does have really bad press, it tends to be a standard excuse and joke.  But, it’s not as bad as you think it is.  The good news is you don’t have to eliminate all element of risk in the workplace.  The bad news is you do have some element of paperwork to do.

People do tend to look at it in a wholly negative way.  If you embrace it, comply with it and have a decent documented system, you can actually win work as larger companies will only use sub-contractors who can prove they comply with health and safety law.  You can reduce your insurance premiums by producing your health and safety documentation and completed forms to your broker as you are a lower risk and in the event of a personal injury claim against you, your completed forms, inspections and risk assessments are your defence, possibly saving you up to 90% of the claim value!

To make this as painfree as I can, you can download a list of legal requirements placed upon you dependent on the size of your company.  There’s also links to legislative updatesguidance notes and the latest news fromthe Health and Safety ExecutiveLocal Authority Inspectors and the Fire Service.

Members can download a Health and Safety Policy Statement and blank forms to help you meet the legal duties placed upon you.

Every month there is a teleseminar on a health and safety topic where attendees can ask questions at the end of the session.  Check back regularly and register for a one hour warning to make sure you don’t miss out on vital free advice.  And don’t forget members have 20 minutes of free telephone consultancy per month as part of their subscription, so any pressing matters that you don’t want to discuss in an open forum can be worked through in a one to one call.
